The Best Time to See the Northern Lights
Welcome sky gazers and starry-eyed explorers. Are you ready to learn about one of the most magical shows in the night sky?
We’re talking about the Northern Lights, the sky’s very own kaleidoscope. These are nature’s disco lights, painting the sky with colours that’ll have you wide-eyed and saying, ‘Is this even real?’
When Is The Best Time to See The Northern Lights?
The best time to see them is from November to March, however, there are no guarantees on a cloudy day. Our trips run from late November to December, the prime time to catch a glimpse of this stunning display.
Why Saariselkä is Super Special
With Santa's Lapland, your journey takes you 200 kilometres beyond the Arctic Circle to the village of Saariselkä, a prime spot for this celestial spectacle.
The dark sky above us starts to twinkle and sway with beautiful, shimmering lights. It's like watching the night sky put on a magical show just for you.
During your stay in this winter wonderland, keep your fingers crossed, because you might just be lucky enough to witness the Northern Lights in their full, breathtaking glory.
What Are the Northern Lights?
The Northern Lights, or Aurora Borealis, are like a big, colourful light show in the sky. They happen way up high, over 100 kilometres above the Earth! When tiny bits from the sun meet our planet's air, they light up and create this amazing show.
Fun Facts About the Northern Lights
- You can see them about 200 nights a year in Lapland. That's a lot of chances to see them!
- The most common colour of the Northern Lights is green, but if you're super lucky, you might see red ones, which are very rare.
- It gets really cold on clear nights when you can see the Northern Lights, so make sure to wear your warmest snowsuit!
